Apply for this positionAbout the role
We are building a payment platform from scratch for our fintech division: a transaction core, ledger, settlement and reconciliation engine, merchant onboarding and a merchant acquiring network for our infrastructure projects in Europe and Africa.
As Software Architect you define the target architecture and the technical roadmap, and you lead the engineering team that implements it. The role has a clear path to CTO of the fintech division.
Your responsibilities
- Design the end-to-end architecture: transaction core, double-entry ledger, settlement, reconciliation and reporting.
- Define integrations with acquiring banks, card schemes, local payment rails and KYC/AML providers.
- Ensure compliance by design with PCI DSS, PSD2/EU, PSD-1 (Namibia) and GDPR.
- Set engineering standards: API contracts, event models, observability, testing and release process.
- Lead architecture reviews, technical hiring and mentoring of senior engineers.
Your profile
- 7+ years in commercial software development, including 3+ years as architect or tech lead.
- Hands-on payments experience (PSP, acquiring, issuing, neobank or gateway).
- Financial ledger design and knowledge of ISO 8583 / ISO 20022, SEPA and SWIFT.
- Strong backend engineering in Java/Kotlin, Go, C# or Python.
- Kafka, Kubernetes and cloud platforms (AWS or Azure).
- Fluent English; able to work with distributed teams.
Nice to have
- Experience launching a licensed payment institution or EMI.
- Card issuing or processor migration projects.
- Exposure to emerging markets and local payment schemes.
What we offer
- Greenfield platform — you shape the architecture, not maintain someone else's.
- Hybrid work in Riga or fully remote within the EU.
- Full-time employment or B2B contract, whichever suits you.
- Clear growth path towards CTO of the fintech division.
